Boemklatsch – Think Big (Noisia Remix)

What else do you expect from Noisia – another massive remix. They just keep rolling them out. Out early 2011 on Bmkltsch Records.

Man of the moment (if you have your ear to the floor) Rockwell is set to release his new single ‘Reverse Engineering’ on Darkestral Recordings, and believe me even if you don’t like the tune you are (or should) want a copy. Why you might ask? Well:

IT PLAYS BACKWARDS!!!!

Yes that’s right – backwards! Not only are the grooves of the record cut so that the needle travels from the inside to the edge, a world first as far as I’m aware, but every sample, hit, you name it in the actual tune are reversed! True innovation.

Already having made his mark for his extensive detailing in his tunes (in an interview he divulged that in some of his tunes he has over 100! lines of percussion) and his use of natural samples (paper tearing, squeaky doors, things dropping on the floor, you name it), which give his tunes a haunting familiarity, this record is truly pioneering.

Next up at Snaky Pete’s, and set to blow the roof off the place, is New York City’s very own, Drop The Lime. If you have heard the enormous ‘Sex Sax’ out and about then you would be right to be getting excited.

And while many have only just heard of the magic of Drop The Lime, Luca has been honing his craft for years. From humble beginnings as a choirboy to a childhood obsession with 50s rock’n’roll, the 25 year old has been experimenting with sound for years via the underground electronic scene of Kid 606’s TigerBeat6 label, Mad Decent and French label Institubes (under his alter ego “Curses!”).

His new single ‘Hot As Hell’ is set to drop in January and is already getting played by DJ’s from across the spectrum. And with an album of the same name to follow shortly after, it looks like its going to be big in 2011 for Luca. Check out his website, dropthelime.com if you need any more proof.

Tickets are only £5 and are selling out fast for this intimate venue so get in there early. Its going to be a wicked night.

Axis return to Cabaret Voltaire in a blaze of glory with an unmissable line-up that has all  three rooms playing host to fantastic DJ’s  whose specialities each lie in wholly different genres but promise to get your feet dancing and your booty shaking.

In an attempt to break from the norm the night will provide a look back at the music from the last 50 years in the form of three rooms spinning different genres specific to different decades and of course all this with a banging Main Room headliner without which it just wouldn’t be Axis. All up we’ve got something for everyone!

Kicking us off with Rock, Groove and Physchedelia from the 60′s and 70′s will be the Beep Beep Yeah crew hosting the Speakeasy and getting you all Twisting and Shouting with a retro chic soundtrack you won’t be able to say “no” to.

If you can possibly drag yourself downstairs to the Back Room you’ll find yourself transported back into the 80′s and 90′s Hip-Hop and Funk scene as supplied by two of the best: Molecular Scissors (Inkling, Soul Jam Hot) and DJ Fusion (Nu-Fire). These guys will be ripping it up with funk-fuelled beats and breaks for all the hip-hop heads out there.

Last but by no means least will be the 00′s and 10′s in the Main Room soundtracked by your hosts for the night the Axis residnets playing their usual mix of electro and house grooves promising to blow your socks off once again.

But that is not all we’ve got in store for this one. Gracing the Main Stage for the headline slot will be the much hyped, blogged and generally loved Hot Pink Delorean!
Recently signed to Kissy Sell Out’s San City High label these guys can do no wrong and promise to play an insane mix of Electro, House, Tech-house, Prog, Dubstep, Dnb and anything else that will make you dance.

And to get everyone in the mood for this musical look back through the last half century Frequent Flyers have put together a Mini-Mix that races through 50-years worth of music in just 4 minutes and to go with the mix our resident video specialist Les Hinks has put together a little promo vid to get everyone as excited as they should be for this one!

For those that made it along to their last explosive Axis appearance at Cabaret Voltaire last October Jokers of the Scene need no introduction, for those that didn’t I can guarantee that this is one not to be missed.

Jokers of the Scene are that rare beast in electronic music that refuses to be classified and with each new release show a different side, but whether its the bouncing electro houve jam Baggy Bottom Boys or their latest Techno stomper Revolting Joks they always bring their A-game.

Boy 8-Bit “Wolfen (Jokers Of The Scene Rmx)”

This remix of Boy 8-Bit’s Wolfen shows Jokers darker side with the rolling bassline throughout building to a frenzy towards the end and the haunting melody stays with you long after the song is done….

Les GIllettes “Pompeii (Jokers of the Scene Rmx)”

Another darker remix that can only be described as “Epic”.

The Acorn “Bobcat Goldwraith (Jokers of the Scene Treehouse Rmx)”

A very different vibe for this one, a remix not so much for in the club but for when you get home, its four in the morning and you really need to wind down. Ethereal, spooky, wacked out and all with a horn section to boot.

Kele “Tenderoni (Jokers of the Scene Rmx)”

A remix of Kele from Bloc Party’s recent hit Tenderoni that morphs the original into something altogether different. The rather sinister sounding intro builds every so slowly until finally breaking into a joyous spangly drop that will keep you smiling all day!

Jokers of the Scene “Revolting Joks”

If you only listen to one of these tunes make it this one. Jokers latest single Revolting Joks is a massive techno fuelled bomb but it is the piano breakdown in this tune (much like their previous single Baggy Bottom Boys) that sets this one apart from the rest. And if you don’t go mad for the final drop then you need to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror.

Well hello there fine people,

Yes it is that time of the year….when you can get a fish supper and a can of red stripe to wash it down at 5am…its FESTIVAL TIME. The axis boys  have allowed me a little slot in their beautiful new sight to detail my thoughts on the biggest records of the month, who to look out for on the blogosphere and why you should be down at Axis every Wednesday during the festival (shameless plugging I know) to hear these beats and other fine semiquavers to fill your ear drums.

And so without further ado…let’s get down to business.

THIS WEEK:

Neon Indian

After tours with the likes of Chromeo, Massive Attack and Phoenix: Neon Indian the chillwave band from Texas will be gracing the Sneaky stage. Their sound: a coalation of synth mashed with riffs and enough reverb to keep you vibing for a week. Alan Paloma, the man with the korg jaw (see above), is the creator of this sound with his live band ensuring the synth lead mania of their album psychic chasms is recreated right on your doorstep.

The album, a masterpiece of dreamy tracks to all out 80’s 2 step has been the accompaniment to my summer with a snap shot of reference including, appropriately, deadbeat summer and the album titled track psychic chasm.

Since the release of the album many tracks have featured in a collage of  top 100 songs of 2009. New material for 2010 including the free download on green label,  sleep paralyses, has created the deserved hype for the band with a more sophisticated production approach without losing the synth lead drive of neon Indian . The prestigious rolling stones magazine have called them one of the hot tipped bands for 2010 and if that review isn’t enough for you @ Axis I refer to them as “crackingly good”.

Axis heads will know them best for their remix of Au revoir Simone – Another likely story which is a regular feature on the 1’s and 2’s and with the band stepping up to the plate on Wednesday I can hardly contain myself in excitement for other material that will dropped on the day.
